Finding A Personal
Fitness Trainer
Looking for a personal fitness trainer?
Have you ever been envious of the personal attention given to
athletes, celebrities, and others who have a need to have perfectly toned
bodies? Wouldn't it be nice if you, too, could take advantage of these body
experts?
Personal fitness trainers are highly-trained experts, with knowledge about
physiology, athletic science, and sports nutrition. They are neither doctors nor
coaches, but can help you get the best possible performance out of your body
while keeping you motivated to attain your fitness goals, and even set new ones
that are more realistic for what you can expect from your body.
How Personal Fitness Trainers Operate
While celebrities have their trainers come to their homes or workplaces, most
fitness trainers today work out of gyms. The initial visit, often free, is used
to assess where you are physically, what your goals should be, and which
physical and nutritional strategies you need to use in order to reach your
goals.
After this, he or she will meet with you on a regular basis, take you through a
workout routine for about an hour, and then assess your progress toward your
goal. Any changes that need to be made are discussed, and you have an
opportunity to talk to the trainer about nutritional, physical, or motivational
issues you may be having.
Costs vary, but bottom-end prices are about $25 an hour for a trainer at a gym
who may also be coaching another person at the same time, all the way up to $500
an hour or more for a celebrity fitness trainer who comes to your home. Most
trainers cost in the $50-75 an hour range.
How To Find A Personal Fitness Trainer
This is the tricky part. There are about 30,000 different certifications out on
the market for fitness trainers, some legitimate and others not. You'll need to
find a personal fitness trainer who:
-
Has NASM, ACE, ACSM, or NSCA certification.
All others need not apply; they may be good, but they are not industry
standard and the trainers holding them may not be educated on all the most
recent techniques.
-
Has excellent references. You want to talk to
references if possible, particularly if you are paying a lot of money.
-
Is in the physical condition you aspire to.
It makes no sense to go to a trainer who has not shown the ability to buff
themselves out.
-
Has a local gym affiliation. This is not an
absolute requirement, especially if the references are extensive and good,
but it makes it much easier to make a positive judgment about your trainer.
If you find a great personal trainer and
would like to help him or her advertise more locally, he or she can send a
fitness tip to this website. We'll publish the tip, credit the trainer, and
add them to our listings. As we grow, so will our trainer listings. We will
be limiting listings in every local area, however, so to ensure your trainer
gets listed, tell him or her to submit a tip right away.
